Captain Greg Francis' Fishing Reports

3/27/09 Fishing Report

Left Tiki yesterday at 630 am and headed West. Tides were running about 2' above normal and the wind was out of the southwest at 10 to 13 knots.  First spot paid off right away at we had 10 Trout all between 22 and 25".
I would guess about a 3 to 4lb average. I caught all mine on a bone Super Spook with the Tracey and Taylor catching most on plastics. The bigger Trout were released. We had a few fish on that pulled off and I probably
had another 6 or 7 blowups that were missed. After that it was a tough bite. Could not locate big concentrations of surface bait. The trout seemed like they pushed out deep rather quickly this morning. After the early bite most of the slicks were popping up in about 5 to 6' of water.  Couldn't reach them wading. Off the water at 200pm with 12 Trout and 1 Red. Turned loose another 4 or 5 bigger fish.

3/22/09 Fishing Report

Spring I beleive has finally arrived! What an outstanding week we had, you could not have asked for more perfect weather like we had this week. I wished the fishing could have been a little better though. I had a very
tough week as far as the catching goes but we had a great time trying. Our water temp is at our magic mark of 70 degrees and there is a ton of bait fish everywhere. I expect things to really start heating up here in Galveston quick. Last week we had a few outings were we experienced some good topwater action but the last cold front shut it down pretty quick. I expect that this week we will start seeing some really good explosive action on surface baits. Soft plastic Bass Assassins have accounted for most of the fish we have caught lately but I imagine in my next report there will be a better topwater report with some very impressive stringers
of Trout and Reds being caught. I did do some scouting the other day around the San Luis Pass area and things are looking really good here. I would say in about 1 to two more weeks (with no major fronts)this place
will be red hot for wading fishing with topwaters catching some really hefty fish. When the San Luis Pass turns on, you definatly don't want to miss out on this action. Topwater action at its finest!!!!!

3/11/09 Fishing Report

The last few days the fishing has improved greatly under much warmer conditions. But, that will change with the forecasted front that will push through tonight. As of late we are still catching Trout, Reds, and
Flounder in the coves in West Bay. The topwater bite finally started happening once again but will more than likely be put on hold for a few day after the front. This week we started finding some solid Trout on some
of the mid bay shell pads when the wind allows us to get to them. Fishing slicks and mullet have been the key in locating these aggressive fish. Bait selection has not matter too much the last few days. Topwaters in the
big spooks and She Dogs have worked early. Corky Fatboys and the old stand by Assassin has caused the most damage on Trout. The plum/chartreuse Assassin remains hot for me.

Book your spring trip NOW! The fishing is fixing to be OUTSTANDING!!!!

3/6/09 Galveston Fishing Report

The last few days we have had some really slow fishing. The last several days we have been catching 10 or so fish and we really had to work hard for them. Fish are still comming in and around some of the coves located
along the south shoreline of West Bay. I am still keying in on soft mud bottoms near deeper guts when the temps are colder. Later in the day we are moving more towards the shallower areas of the coves keying in on bait
fish. Some of our bigger Trout are comming in the shallows near the back where the warmer is a bit warmer later in the day. Earlier this week we were doing most of our catching on plum/char Saltwater Assassins and darker colored Corky Fatboys. Yesterday I finally got a good topwater bite on a darker colored topwater (black Shedog). The bite didn't last long but it was good to see them busting a topwater bait. The topwater bite will
only get better as we get more into the spring time pattern.most of the bay has been a little off-coloed due to the high southerly winds we have had but alot of the coves on the south shoreline side have had some good
fishable water. Keying in on Mullet is a must right now for catching fish right now, aswell as locating slicks. I'm not seeing many slicks right now but I am seeing a few. This will improve aswell as the water temps get warmer.
